Auspicious Dragons: in Chinese culture the dragon is associated with Good Luck and Good Fortune. According to myth the dragon is made up of 9 different animals; it has the claws of an eagle, the scales of a fish, the eyes of a lobster, the mouth of an ox, the horns of a deer, the nose of a canine, the mane of a lion, the tail of a snake and the whiskers of a catfish. According to this myth dragons can fly though it is wingless. It has power over the weather and can bring or withhold wind and rain. It is synonymous with power, imperial prestige and royalty. The ancient Han peoples of China believed that they were descended from dragons.

Om Mani Padme Hum is roughly translated as ‘The Jewel is in the Lotus’. The lotus is a symbol of creation. This is a mantra composed by one of the most revered Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara)  – a person who delays his or her own enlightenment in order to guide other beings towards their Nirvana (escape from earthly suffering through compassion). Om is the essence of the 5 wisdoms and the primordial sound of the universe. This mantra is used to invoke compassion in the person saying it and is thought to protect from suffering and misfortune.  Om is recited first as it is the essence of the 5 wisdoms.  Mani is Jewel.   Padme is lotus.  Hum is recited last as it translates to ‘being mindful of this’.

8 Auspicious Symbols:  8 auspicious symbols associated with prosperity, happiness, enlightenment and health. They are: Dharma Wheel, Lotus Flower, Victory Banner, Precious Umbrella, Vase of treasure, Golden Fish, Right-coiled White Conch, Auspicious Drawing.
